Every day is an opportunity for success in the gym. So much of our success and how we feel is dependent on our attitude, thoughts and feelings. We create our own reality. In order to make every day in the gym successful, we must have a positive attitude and make the right choices.
Here are a dozen ways to have a successful day in the gym every day:
- When you wake up, decide right away to be happy, successful and in a good mood all day. It is amazing how much better the right attitude can make your day. Start the day out right, with the right attitude, and a commitment to staying positive all day, will set the tone for creating a successful day.
- Smile. Telemarketers are taught to smile, every time before they talk on the phone, because, even though the people they are talking to, can’t see their smile, they will sense it. And they also sense the positive attitude a smile automatically brings.
- Make sure your early morning routine includes some form of reviewing your goals for the day (and if you have time, your medium and long-term goals as well). I use a PowerPoint slideshow presentation, with text listing my goals and pictures that symbolize achieving my goals. I regularly revise the goals as I achieve them or as circumstances change.
- Greet everyone you meet (during the day, but especially in the gym) with a smile and a kind word. Brightening the mood of everyone around will brighten your mood and improve the overall mood around you, as well.
- Always reply to questions with positive statements about yourself and your day. When people ask how you are, say “I am excellent.” or “I am great.” When someone asks how your day is going, tell them “It’s a great day!” There is power in your words and that positive language is programming your mind so you can be successful and for you to be great.
- Nothing and no one can ruin your day. Even though you cannot control what happens and what people say to you, you can control your reaction to it. Positive thoughts and words create a barrier for you against negative thoughts and feelings and keep your day going great.
- Find a way to give to others every day. You could donate money to a worthy cause, but just helping one of the younger gymnasts in the gym for a few minutes will count even more. You will be surprised at how much you will learn yourself by teaching others.
- Set aside some time every day for yourself. You may want some alone time. You may want some time to talk to your friends outside of the gym. You may have a favorite activity that makes you happy. Many people have a hard time taking time for themselves and doing things for themselves. Call a friend who makes you happy, have your favorite snack or dessert, take a long shower or bubble bath or listen to your music. Take the time to take care of yourself and keep your life in balance.
- Take care of your basic physical needs. Start everyday with a good breakfast, drink lots of water, eat healthy snacks and meals and get enough sleep.
- Make time to spend with your family and friends. Go to school and the gym a little early so you can spend time with your friends there. Talk with your parents and brothers and sisters, on the way to the gym, during meals
- Stay connected. When you talk to your teammates, coaches, friends and family questions, ask questions about their lives. Everyone likes to talk about themselves, so give them the chance and they will connect with you. Actively listen, learn and connect with them. Ask them questions, listen actively to their answers and ask more questions – they will think you are the world’s best conversationalist – lol.
- Before you go to sleep, review your day, celebrate your successes and set your daily goals for the next day. Doing this right before you go to sleep will have your subconscious mind preparing you for more success the next day.
Make Each Day a Success and Your Gymnastics Career Will Be a Success
A successful long-term gymnastics career is dependent on making each day and every day of practice count.
