I came across the Coach’s Eye app for iPhone and iPad a couple of weeks ago. We’ve had some great fun in the gym with it and some lessons have definitely been learnt, it has been advantageous for both young and older gymnasts. It’s a fantastic app, a must have for those who don’t have video analysis in the gym.
In short, Coach’s Eye is a video analysis app. As the website describes it:
Whether you’re working on a golf swing, football drill, soccer kick, or yoga posture…Coach’s Eye delivers “ah-ha” moments that elevate athletes from good to great.
Coach’s Eye makes it extremely easy to review individual frames of the video to really see what is happening. You have the power to create and share videos that people can understand immediately, without ever leaving your phone.
It provides a very simple interface to record video shots and then play them back to your ahtlete in slow motion or even frame by frame. Not only that, you can pause and draw lines, squares and circles on top of the video – whether it is paused or still playing. It has been particularly useful demonstrating an incorrect handstand shape on vault to younger gymnasts or an incorrect blocking technique to older gymnasts. The app also records audio commentary when reviewing the video, the clip can then be shared by email or uploaded to YouTube. View the features below:
The app is essential for those gymnasts who sometimes just don’t quite “get it”, by “it” I mean the coaches explanation of a correction. Sometimes the gymnasts just need to see that they are piked on a front handspring vault rather than be told.
Coaches Eye is a must have, at only $4.99 or €3.99 from the iTunes App Store, the price has risen since first being introduced in 2011 which indicates that it is popular.
