Discipline is one of the hallmarks of a great athlete. One of the funny things about discipline is that the very things you do to build discipline also demonstrate it to everyone around you. Do these 43 things cheerfully, with focus and intent, and the discipline you demonstrate will make you a better gymnast and cause everyone around you to take notice and build their respect for you.

18 Ways to Build Discipline at Every Practice

  1. Do homework assignments.
  2. Arrive on time.
  3. Show respect to gym upon entering.
  4. Find and Report to coach upon arrival.
  5. Greet/Show respect to coach upon arrival.
  6. Acknowledge/Greet/Smile at/Show respect to coaches when passing them on gym property.
  7. Stand in an attentive position whenever waiting or listening to coach.
  8. On beam and FX, gain extra practice by standing on high releve’ whenever waiting.
  9. Always stand at attention and look directly at your coach when they are talking to you.
  10. Pack and march with gym bag to all events.
  11. March to every event and acknolwedge/report to coach in charge.
  12. Salute before and after every skill, drill and performance.

5 Gym Chores That Build Discipline

  1. Wax on, wax off. Perform Gym chores and cleaning. You and your group may have assigned cleaning and tasks to complete daily. Check the chart for your duties and perform them conscientiously. These are an important part of your training and discipline.
  2. Never litter in gym.
  3. Always pick up any trash you see in gym and throw it away.
  4. Clean up and straighten up gym whenever and wherever you see it needs it.
  5. Always put away any mats/equipment immediately after you are finished using them or whenever you see they need to be put away.
